Jewellery Care

How to care for your Rodanthe Jewels

Rodanthe’s gemstones are natural and durable, so if looked after can last a lifetime. We recommend you do not wear the pieces when applying creams and perfumes. Always remove before swimming, showering or exercising. This way your pieces will maintain their lustrous look. To keep your pieces clean we advise to regularly brush over the pieces with a soft baby toothbrush in water with a little detergent to break up any build up.

How best to store your jewellery

  • Jewellery is ideally stored in a Rodanthe jewellery box.
  • Protect your jewellery in the original Rodanthe box, or in our satin dust pouch.
  • Keep pieces apart so that they do not rub together or tangle, particularly diamonds with other stones.
  • Always lay jewellery flat.
  • Take care not to drop, bash or scratch. Remember that fine jewellery should be treated lovingly.

We like you to wear our jewellery every day and on every occasion. With a little care and attention you can  preserve their beautiful shine and lustre over time.

STERLING SILVER
Since pure silver is soft and very malleable, the most popular type of silver used in jewellery is Sterling Silver, marked as .925, which consists of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. Oxygen and moisture will naturally tarnish silver jewellery over time, making it look dull and darkened. This is a completely normal process, which can easily be removed with a good quality silver polish.

Our silver jewellery has been rhodium plated or gold plated to enhance their shininess and to avoid oxidation.  Rhodium is a metal that has a silvery-white appearance and is one of the rarest and most precious metals. Rhodium is resistant to corrosion and does not oxidise.  However, over time with regular wear rhodium plating may slowly vanish and oxidation may occur.  Since rhodium plating is a surface treatment it can be easily restored.

Please store your silver jewellery properly in a dry and air-tight place to minimise the oxidation process. Avoid contact with fragrances, lotions and cleaning agents, especially bleach and always remove your silver jewellery when swimming or showering. When cleaning your silver jewellery be sure to clean the silver only and avoid contact with any gemstones, particularly pearls and soft stones such as opals as the polish may damage the gemstones permanently.  We recommend cleaning your jewellery using lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush and then finish by polishing with a soft cloth to prevent the natural process of tarnishing.

18K GOLD
Since our 18k gold jewellery always includes precious and semiprecious gemstones we recommend to carefully clean it in a lukewarm warm water with a drop of mild, liquid dishwashing detergent, rinse completely with clean lukewarm water and then blot dry using a soft cloth.

PRECIOUS AND SEMI PRECIOUS STONES
Gemstones are very delicate and sensitive to external agents, such as creams, fragrances, soaps, detergents, cleaning products, especially stones with a porous structure like opal and pearls. Although the gemstones used in jewellery have generally a high hardness index, they are still sensitive to small knocks, which may scratch, chip or break them.

We advise cleaning your precious and semi precious stones gently with a clean, soft, damp cloth only. Avoid contact with hot water, soaps and harsh chemicals and cleaners at all times.
